Avery Lindon
Avery Lindon is the alter ego of a two-time RITA® Award-winning contemporary romance author and a lifelong fantasy fan. She still loves a romantic story, but now her books come with 100% more intrigue and pointy objects.
In 2025, she co-founded the cooperative small press, Unity Inkworks, to publish diverse, affirming feminist fiction woven with magic, mayhem, and yes, pointy objects. She currently lives in Colorado with her family, though she spends as much time as possible traveling the world (and following her favorite bands across the country).
My Story
I always intended to become a writer, ever since I wrote my first short story at age seven. It simply took detours through careers in classical ballet (short-lived) and marketing (useful, but sanity-testing) before I arrived here. I started my publishing career under a different pen name in 2013 and have since published nineteen books under that name, winning awards and building an audience whose love still holds me in awe. And yet…
I’ve never written simply to write books, make money, or collect accolades. I write to understand the world around me and how I fit into it. I write to work through my own doubts, prejudices, and traumas. I write to shine light on injustice, challenge bias, and build empathy.
Naturally, over time, perceptions change. Circumstances challenge beliefs, strengthening some and casting doubt on others. Communities in which you once felt at home no longer fit; new groups open their arms to welcome you, bringing with them a new set of perspectives to explore.
After twelve years of writing contemporary romance, it was time to move on to new topics, new genres, and new stories. So Avery Lindon was born.
Ironically—or perhaps fortuitously—I reconnected with my old friend Neve, who was going through similar sea changes, and fell in love with a finished manuscript languishing on her hard drive…one so good that I didn’t merely want to edit it, I wanted to publish it. And so the idea of UIW took shape, forming a new approach to publishing and the creative process—community, collective creativity, and mutual support.
It’s been a long time since I woke up each morning excited to see what the day will bring, what challenges I can overcome, what ideas I can explore. And now that I’m here, I can’t wait to see what’s next. Welcome aboard. I hope you’ll take this journey with us.
